Windows XP - heavy CPU usage while dragging a select box ?

I'm on my cousin's machine which has XP Pro installed, and I noticed a bit of a glitch that should not be happening. When I'm in a folder and I drag the mouse to select a group of files, that colored box it draws makes explorer.exe eat up nearly 100% CPU. Of course, the bigger the box is, the more CPU it eats.

The machine is an Athlon 1.4GHz with an Ali-Magik motherboard (A7A266). I didn't install the motherboard drivers yet.. could that be the problem? I don't think I have this problem at home on my A7V133.

Thanks.

I notice that it shows very high CPU performance but I didn't see any slowdown in real world performance because it goes down in a second. Hopefully this will be fixed by the final release.

Note: Running build 2526

With the newer detonator drivers (12.XX+) all the GUI effects are accelerated in XP, if you have a Nvidia card that is. I'm not sure how it is with other cards but you can turn off the "colored box" effect and just use the plain old pointed line selection box if things are too sluggish.

You know, his gfx card IS a Voodoo3.. maybe that's why. Pretty outdated card...

PS: How do you turn off the colored box feature?
