Curious, does anyone know what the Windows Guest account is used for, and why I keep seeing it routinely re-enabled even though I have repeatedly disabled it? This is on a new PC with XPpro w/SP2, and the only software installed is some DVD writer software and nothing else.

Because it is a built-in account I cannot remove it altogether. The description of the account doesn't seem such that it should be forcibly kept in-place.

It's a built in account, so no you can't delete it, only disable.

You should be VERY concerned that it keeps reenabling. Go to local security settings in administrative tools, turn on auditing for 'audit account management', 'audit policy change' and 'audit account logon events' at a minimum.
