SO does anyone use windows xp to game with? what are your experiences?

Here is a something interesting about Windows XP and FPS :

"If you have the original release of XP that was released back in October of 2001, all DirectX games in Windows XP run at only 75 Hz at every resolution, regardless of what your computer is capable of. However, if you have Windows XP Service Pack 1, the situation with DirectX games has vastly improved, although it's still not as good as the "Optimal" setting from Windows 98/ME. If you run a DirectX game in XP SP1, it will use the refresh rate that you currently have set in "Display Properties" IF your computer supports that same refresh rate setting at the display resolution you are playing the game at. IF your computer doesn't support the same refresh rate setting you have set in "Display Properties" at the resolution you are running the game at, then XP will just run the game at 75 Hz like the original release of XP did. So for example, if you had your desktop resolution in "Display Properties" set at 1024x768 with a refresh rate of 100 Hz, but you ran a DirectX game at 1280x1204, and your computer can only handle 85 Hz at 1280x1024, Windows would see that it cannot run your game at 100 Hz, but instead of running the game at 85 Hz like your computer is capable of, it will instead just run the game at 75 Hz like the original release of XP did."

anyway to get around the above?

i use powerstrip. you can define what refresh rates you want for each resolution that is supported on your video card. It then locks it so when you play a game or something it'll still be that refresh rate. Also has a nice overclocking utility that i use as well.

It`s a well known problem with 2K and XP however there`re plenty of third party fixes for it,I use NVRefreshTool 2.0 from here(for Nvidia cards) .

NVRefreshTool is a utility used to fix the problem in Windows 2000/XP that sets your refresh rate to 60Hz when you play ANY game. This problem occurs whether or not you have a higher refresh rate set in your Display Properties of Windows.

NVRefreshTool is simple and easy to use. Just load up the NVRefreshTool program and it will automatically detect the maximum refresh rate at each resolution that your monitor supports. If you're an advanced user, you can customize each refresh rate at each resolution.

Currently NVRefreshTool supports all Detonator versions.

Very true. Windows 2000/XP have so many advantages over 9x/ME, that it's no contest at all, even with the refresh rate issue considered.
