Dell 2400mhz celeron budget line computer.. upgraded to 512mb(shipped with 512, but not standard) because of 233mhz 32mb PC with Windows 95 not being compatible with Norton 2002...
So the customer had Lotus 97, Windows 95, and only used it to update his GPS and other devices via serial... and email and a calendar mostly.
However we changed to a dell and network transfered the files over and reinstalled lotus 97 and his other programs.. nothing major except lotus. The computer ran fine it seemed.
After a few weeks, he called back and said he was getting freezes(no errors, no shut downs, just full lockups).. after trying for a while, I am unable to reproduce these freezes. The hourglass shows up he says and nothing happens.. it just freezes.
I took Lotus 97 out of the startup via Hijackthis and after that he said that it seemed to freeze less and whatever I did seemed to be helping.
Now to the problem at hand. He is having it freeze alot more often now, and also is wanting to hook a HP 1950 PDA or.. iPAQ i think he called it to his computer. However it will only interface with outlook and when his friend came over(a little better technical then him), he couldnt get lotus imported into outlook because it required translators off the CD... Dell doesnt ship CDs with their computers now.
He just has a lotus 97 large calendar and business card address book that he uses alot, and doesnt want to move from Lotus, as he likes it. Lotus wont directly transfer to the PDA with the given software, and I haven't had a chance to see if there are any software packages for the 1950 that work with lotus 97. Lotus 97 may also be causing the freezing because it is so old..
The only software he runs mostly is EZtrust Armor suite from Time Warner/Road Runner(free with service), and the PDA, as well as lotus and a little web browsing.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, just havent been able to find a solution besides upgrading to newer lotus(money), changing over to outlook(different).
Does anyone know if Lotus 97 is known to be problematic with Windows XP?
Thanks in advance.
I try to be a tech for the family/friends.. but maybe not as smart as I think I am.
