Windows XP firewall problem

My friends system had some nasties that I helped him remove, but still haven't been able to get a internet connection.
When I try to start win firewall it says the service cannot be started, system error 2001, the specified driver is invalid.
Anyone seen this before, any ideas?
I have tried teh google, but couldn't find anything real useful.

Thanks

I remember having that problem after removing a bunch of nasties from my PC.

try this:

Start => Run => Type netsh winsock reset then click ok. Restart your computer then check windows firewall again.

Thanks for the ideas. I did try netsh winsock reset, even tried the winsock tool.
I ran the system file check after I first noticed the problem, but it didn't help. Just ran it again, and now it works 😕 w/e
