windows xp file indexing. i don't see an option to turn it on????

i used to see the option in the search window, but for some reason it doesn't show anymore, i want to turn it on since i have lots of files and bad organization. relying on search more and more🙁
 
nope, using xp pro here too. oddly enough last time i installed it i had indexing. not quite sure what happened this time for it to dissapear hm
 
It looks like you must have administrator permission to administer Indexing Service. Log in as an administrator or change you permission under User profiles.
 
I use indexing on systems at work but not at home. Does the Indexing service put an overhead on the system that will hamper gaming and other system intensive activities? I did enable it when I installed WinXP but now I'd like to find out if I'm killing my performance...
