windows XP external modem?

My ancient USR Courier V.Everything External works just fine. Though for some reason the modem has to powered on before Windows starts up, so don't let that fool you.
 
I think that most external modems (that uses comports) should be fine in XP. USB ones I am not so sure about.

Most com port externals will work well in Linux.
