From the Press Release:

<<It does, however, apply only to computers which have had Windows XP preinstalled by a computer manufacturer.>>

If you put XP on yourself, then there's nothing to worry about. Besides, who doesn't back up before upgrading anyway?

I heard the data loss is limited to the My Documents, My Photos, My Music and My Downloads folders, which are all system folders, when upgrading from WinME to XP. Haven't heard of any other circumstances.

WinXP is @ss.

I installed it on a brand new PC.. store bought WinXP home edition.. got it up and running, went online, found there was 1 critical update for it, installed it like anyone would. - Had to format the HD.

that is sooo mental...

I hate it so far.. now that it's up and running agan i am not touching any stupid updates or anything.. it can sit there and be all unpatched i don't care!!! (the PC is just there for testing and trying things in XP.)

If you delete Undo_guimode.txt out of Windows\System32 before upgrading you shouldn't have this problem either (this will prevent problems with running a repair or anything like that).
