Windows XP Drivers for Voodoo Cards!!!

NFS4

Just got this in my inbox:

<< If you didnt already know, nVidia ( who bought 3dfx ) have refused to give
Microsoft the source code for new drivers in Windows XP. In all the builds
above 2462, opengl/glide will not work, and from 2499 upwards, WinXP will
not even install a driver for your voodoo card!

Never fear though, cRuNcHiE is here! 🙂 He has bodged together some drivers
that do actually work (for v3/4/5 in WinXP. You can go and dl them at
http://go.to/3dfxp.

The latest on the situation is that a 3rd party will write some proper
drivers and apparently, if you have WinXP RC1, and do a windows update, it
will install some newer drivers for your voodoo card, but they still wont
work for Glide.

Open GL does work with these drivers & RC1, but OGL speed is very slow (about 1/4 of what it is in Win2000, using the original Omega drivers), D3D speed is OK.

<< thanks vailr
looks like its time to get rid of the old voodoo if you plan to upgrade to XP

*phew* I dumped my V5-5500 to a Win2k guy a few weeks back. I got a GeForce256SDR so it's slower....but at least it will work in WinXP 😛

That sucks about the Voodoo drivers though 🙁 *loved his V3-2000 and V5-5500*
