Windows XP doesnt want to start

Here a question for u windows expert:

One laptop crashed, and then when I reboot the computer it stopped at a selection of safe mode, start windows normally, and start with last known good config.

I try each of them and all of them paused, nothing happend.

I use recovery console to restore the boot sector (fixboot, fixmbr) and chkdsk on top of that.
When the computer rebooted, nothing happend, back at square 1.

Any idea how to get this computer to start winxp ?

Thanks

Boot from the XP CD, press a key when it says "Press a key to boot from CD . . .". Wait until you get the screen that says about the recovery console, press Enter instead- you don't want the Recovery Console. Setup will examine the disks for existing installations, it'll then say something like "to setup XP, press <Enter>" and "Press R to repair an existing installation". Press R, wait a bit, and you may find that sorts it. It'll remove any service packs you have installed but it won't alter anything else, and should solve it.

Let us know if it does!

laptop is D600 and there is no beeps or anything. It got stuck where you choose to start in safe mode or normal mode, etc, but selecting either one of them just paused the computer and nothing happened.
I am going to get the drives out and hopefully can salvage the file, then reinstall winxp.

This is the first time I've come around boot problem that fixmbr and fixboot didnt fix. I also run CHKDSK from recovery console. Well let see what happen later.

Run a diagnostic to check the hard drive for bad sectors. Post back and let us know how the reinstall went.
