Windows XP - Digital Camera - Force to show as drive letter?

I had to get one of my users a new digital camera. When he plugs it into his PC via USB the camera doesn't show up as a drive letter in Windows Explorer like some others do. His previous one did. His new one just shows up as the actual camera (no drive letter).

This would be fine except that some software he uses needs it to be a physical drive letter. Is there anyway (without getting a card reader) to make the camera show up as a drive letter?

Thanks!

It depends entirely on the camera itself. Some cameras can be used as a simple flash drive and will be assigned a drive letter. Others cannot. What camera (brand name and exact model number) does your friend have?
