Windows XP corrupt folder problem

I'm using XP Professional and I'm having trouble with a corrupt folder on my storage hard drive. I can't delete the folder, and the disk check utility on startup freezes when it tries. The folder was created by Nero Burning Rom, and was supposed to be a user database for storing the attributes of my burnt cds. It froze up while I was using Nero, and now there is a folder that I can't be rid of.

I tried using system restore, but I didn't have it logging my storage drive because I thought it would be a waste of space.

I cleaned my registry and deleted the entries for this folder, but no dice. I tried using the recovery console but it won't let me access the D: drive using it, it just says Access denied.

There is about 6 gigs of files tied up in this one folder. So I'm kinda anxious about getting rid of it.

So what I'm asking for is, are there any third-party tools that could help with this problem, or any other ways to rid myself (other than backing it all up and reformatting?)

Thanks.

Boot to dos and remove it from there. And don't click shutdown and restart in dos mode (protection is still there). Boot from floppy disk work your way through. I have been able to delete files that way, but I haven't tried it with XP yet. Let me know if it works.

alright... i got it fixed. here's how in case someone else ever has this problem.

i made an xp boot disk, but the xp boot disk didn't work, and i made a 98 one on my mom's computer and tried deleting it and still no dice... so i ran 98's scandisk and voila.. no more corrupted directory.

god bless win98's scandisk.
