Windows XP boot up problem

I had a problem with my laptop. I had to reinstall Windows. When I reinstalled Windows, I deleted all partitions and reinstalled Windows. I had no problem doing this. Except for one thing.

When I start the computer it says:

Please select the operating system to start:

Windows XP Media Center Edition
Windows XP Media Center Edition

It shouldn't be asking me this. It should be loading straight to the desktop. It gives me 20 seconds to answer my question before going to desktop. Selecting either gives the same result...no difference. How do I get the computer to stop asking me that? I just want to turn it on and have the computer take me right to the desktop.

Thanks for the help.

In Windows, go to the "System Properties" control panel, then the "Advanced" tab. You will see a place to set the "Startup and Recovery" options. At the top of that panel, you can select the default operating system for boot and you can set the "Time to display list of operating systems" to zero seconds. First, try booting to each of those two options and see which one should actually be used for the boot.

All this does is edit the "Boot.ini" file in your c: root directory. You may end up wanting to manually edit this file. Here's how.

Thanks. I deleted the second line and right now it boots to the desktop. No more "pick an OS."

Not sure why the boot.ini would ask me that.
