Windows XP - Blank screen after splash screen

Had this problem, formated and put sp2 back on, restarted the computer as recommended by the software.
Now my computer displays a blank page after the windows splash screen.

I cannot press Ctrl+alt+del,
I cannot cannot see my cursor... the screen is black.

I can go into safe mode
In a MSConfig diagnostic startup, the computer still displays blank.

What would you recommend to be able to start the computer normally again?

No idea what is causing this, and have searched forums and received few answers

Sounds like a display driver issue. Try downloading the latest drivers for your video card and then install them in safe mode.

Also, when you press F8 to get safe mode there's usually an option for normal with VGA. Try that and see if it boots.

Run a chkdsk /r and see where that takes you. Also try to see if you can get into safe mode by hitting F8 after you see the BIOS screen come and go. If you can do the latter then just try and troubleshoot from there. If you can't get into safe mode I suggest the former.

Can get into safemode. Ran the chkdsk /r with the recovery disk, and it fixed something, but still having issue. I put on the nvidia 77.76 drivers. Maybe I'll try a different driver.
