Windows XP and Verizon DSL problem?

Hey guys,

I used to have a 633 mhz, 64 mb ram, 15 gig hardrive HP computer which ran on Windows ME.

My friend helped me build a new computer (amd 2.5 gigahertz, 254 dram, g force 4 graphic card) and everything is fine except the Verizon DSL internet (lagging) which is running on windows XP. I plan on purchasing a 80 Gig harddrive next week. Right now I am using my old 15 Gig Harddrive.

Do you guys think the problem of the lagging dsl internet is the low 15 gig harddrive which is running on windows XP? Thanks alot for your help!

Can you be more specific? What do you mean by "lagging"? Are you talking about lagging during online games or while browsing the internet?

When I am browsing. I got a good deal on a 120 gig maxtor hd today so hopefully that will solve the problem.

I assume your DSL modem connects through an ethernet (network) card (looks like an oversized phone plug), correct? If so, go to start, run, then type "cmd" (no quotes). Then a little command prompt box will appear (black background with white text). Type "ipconfig /renew" (no quotes) and see if it solves your lag problem.

First thing...How are you logging on are you useing verson's software or are you useing a router. I know in XP you don't have to use there software but they tell you that you have to ..Yea right... Anyway..But I realy don't think it's your HD doing it Am only useing a 18g 7200 rpm WD and it works fine I see my full download and upload speed.

Is it limited to certain sites? Are you occassionally getting errors that the pages can't be found?

If so try using Dr. TCP

We use it in my office to support people in the field who can't see certain sites. We've found there are issues with 2k & XP with some sites and certain DSL providers. I don't know why.

Set the adapter to the adapter you use for connecting to the dsl modem/router.
Set the mtu to 1400
Set the tcp recieve window to 16320.

That solves our problem.

NOTE this is may not work. Its just a hunch.
