My machine at home is XP and from time to time I have to monitor the work servers etc. Now I have terminal server client installed on my work machine, but as yet the company hasn't given me my laptop. Therefore I am needing / wanting terminal services client connection on XP. Under Windows 2000 it is installed as part of the admin pack. Do I have to do the same for XP? If so where do I find the admin pack for XP or do I use the 2000 version?

Cheers

XP's TS client is already installed as part of the default XP Pro. package. Look for it under Accessories>communications>Remote Desktop Connection.

Do as spyordie007 has pointed out. Ask the network admin to open port 3389 if your your office network have a router/firewall.

XP Pro, not XP home right?

Remote Desktop connection is already included in your home OS and is compatible with all RDP 5.0 connections including w2k terminal services. If you are also running a web server at work you should goto microsoft and lookup the TSAC (terminal services advanced client). It allows you to connect to a terminal server from within a web page without any client installed at all.

Yes and yes.

XP Pro comes with a terminal server built in, XP Home does not.

Terminal services also has the web-based interface, however I have never used it with XP, just 2K Server.
