windows XP and sygate

I previously used win98se and with sygate I could connect via the network to a pc (with 98se too) to the internet, now I've installed XP I doesn't seem to work no more, is sygate incompatible with XP or what am I doing wrong, both pc's are in the same workgroup and all settings from DNS to WINS to gateway are in order, what am I doing wrong, (or is there another easier way to connect to a pc directly connected to internet that runs 98se) PLEASE HELP
