Hi everyone

I have been trying to install windows xp for the past two days and have been running into problems. I think that my windows cd may be corrupted but i am not sure. So i install windows and it keeps asking for the disk with sp2 but once i do that it doesn't reconise it. So thinking it was my hard drive i tested it with Seatools to see if my hard drive was the problem it said that physicaly it was fine but the file system which is NTFS was not working properly. So i am not sure what i am doing wrong, and no this is not my first time installing windows.Sorry for the spelling

cd's can get scratched and unreadable, but not corrupted...

I would try and slipstream SP2 onto your CD using nlite and see if that helps.

a quick format wipes the partition tables/marks all sectors as clear

full actually checks sectors and marks them as bad (iirc)

I just did a re-install on my lappy. I had problems installing. Couldn't find certain files during installation and Windows was terminating.

Solved the problem by cleaning the disk. Could have been a little grease/dirt/fluff but after cleaning, the installation finished AOK.

I had installation problems causes by barely visible scratches on a WinXP disc. The OS would seem to install OK then it would do flakey and unpredictable things. After many failed attempts to get a good install I scanned the disc and found excessive read errors. I had the CD resurfaced by a local business that deals in used audio CDs. Problem Solved.
