Windows XP and my new computer

Alright, so all I have to do with my new computer is plug in the crazy cords from my tower case, then I am set.

I took my hard drive from my old computer, and the hard drive has Windows XP on it. I heard that you want to have a clean install of windows with a new mobo etc.

If it boots up from the hard drive, and then I remove everything from it and re install, will that screw anything up?

Also, can I erinstall XP with my Dell Windows XP disk?

You should do a clean install whenever you change MBs and possibly even CPUs. The different chips on the MB will most likely need different drivers. Also you won't have a bunch of unused drivers and a host of Registry entries cluttering up your System (better performance/fewer problems).

I seriously doubt your Dell XP disk will work, as it will look for Dell specific ID's in your Hardware. The only way it would work is if your Dell XP CD is a genuine (or OEM) XP disk, not a "Quick Restore" type of disk.

It's worth a try. Switch over the hdd and then try booting. If it doesn't boot try a Repair installation. Dell XP might install depending it you use some of their parts. Usually a ram stick or KB is enough to identify the unit as Dell. Worse scenario is to do a clean install.
