Windows xp and mobo not compatible?

I recently put together a computer. I have a ECS k7s5a mobo and an amd xp 2000 cpu. I also have 512 ddr cruial ram with an 80 gb maxtor hard drive. When I got to where I needed to install windows I put in my windows xp cd. After about 15 secs of running through the start up of the install process, it came up with an error saying it couldn't load a boot file from the cd-rom. I figured that my windows xp cd had gotten too scratched. I then installed windows 98. It ran ok, and after installing a few programs came up with some strange errors. Next, I got a different windows xp cd and tried to run the setup again only to find out that I got the same error! It no longer could be a scratched cd unless they were scratched in exactly the same spot. I then took the hard drive, put it in a different computer, and preceded to install windows xp (off of the original xp cd). Installed fine. Took it over to the new computer and it wouldn't boot into xp. This is the first computer I've attempted to build, so maybe I'm missing some small detail in bios or something. I have no idea what is going on. Thanks in advance for any help!!!

I don't have a disk drive to put on the computer though. Is there any other way to get around this? You just think that the memory is bad? Thanks for the help!
