Windows XP and Laptops

Is anyone out there running XP on a laptop? I am thinking about doing that release candidate program because then I could download it today... 🙂 but the major question I have about it is its compatability with a laptop. I have a Dell Inspiron 2500, which is Windows 2000 Compatible...but what about NIC etc...can windows 2000 drivers be used???

thanks for any information that you can provide!

Yep. From what I've seen so far, all windows 2000 drivers will work in windows xp with no problmes whatsoever.

I'm running WinXP 2600 Pro right now, using Win2K drivers for my 3D card, sound card, scanner, and NIC.

BTW, don't sign up for the preview program. The final is already out, just look around and you can find the OEM version for sale somewhere. I bought it from a local computer shop yesterday. 🙂

As I said, a local computer shop. They sell OEM versions of windows at below-retail prices, months before the official retail release. 🙂

Of course, there are reasons why OEM versions are cheaper than retail versions:

1. No MS tech support
2. No fancy packaging (just a jewel case and manual in shrink wrap)
3. Can't do an "upgrade" install
4. They're only supposed to be sold with a new computer. At most online stores, you need to buy a hard drive with it.

If you have any local shops that often sell the shrinkwrap bundles I mentioned, you might ask them about getting WinXP.

that is sweet....unfortunatly there are no good computer shops which are local....hmmm....a trip to pricewatch seems to be in order...

thanks

even in the xp install it says xp is perfect for laptops. but that doesn't mean anything. all the win2k drivers that i have work just fine in xp. 🙂 you will like it.
