Windows XP and K7S5A

The issue I'd like to identify is the following:
A Windows XP Professional boots alot longer (until the login screen) on K7S5A mainboard (Duron 600, 256 MB SDRAM)
than on a generic i815-based mainboard with Pentium !!! 733 MHz.
Have anyone any idea about this?
At first I had a Matrox PCI card (XP drivers) but then I switched to a GeForce 2 MX400.
The HDD on Intel is a 7200 rpm Seagate Baracuda, and on K7S5A is a 5400 rpm Quantum
The time needed is about 15-20 s on Intel and >2min on K7S5A.

Thanks,
Calin

I'm guessing it's becuase of the CPU and the HD

P3 733 vs. a Duron 600
A 7200 rpm hd vs a 5400rpm hd

Not exactly a equal comparison there now is it?

it will also depend on how many other devices you are running (both internal and external) you kinda need to compare apples and apples.

Not at all a fair comparation. But I would expect a maximum 2x longer time from Duron 600
than from a P-III 733. I looked and is no much HDD activity.
I suppose there is something in the SIS chipset that XP does not know very well. Anyway,
I consider that my K7S5A + Duron 600 is able to keep it up to the P-III. (once started, it
goes very well).

Devices on Intel P-III:
audio codec
hard drive
CD-ROM + CD-RW
Floppy
Printer

devices on Duron:
audio codec (now a Audigy :) )
hard drive
CD-RW
Floppy

I imagined that other owners of K7S5A could tell me if the problem is singular or not.

thanks

Download BootVis from the Microsoft XP downloads area. It will analyze your system and adjust it for the fastest boot time.
