windows XP and disk space

i installed XP on a 2 gig partition, is there any fluff that I can get rid of? and what the heck is up with these big system files:

hiberfil.sys
pagefil.sys

those 2 files alone are bigger than freeking window 98, what gives?

pagefile.sys is the swap file, you can't get rid of that.
hiberfil.sys is the hibernation file, if you don't want to hibernate the box turn that off and free up the space.

hiberfil.sys for hibernation, win2k had them too.

i was wondering why winxp was so bloated b4 i realise i had hibernation on (disabled it in win2k and had forgotten abt it )

access the feature in control panel > power options > hibernate to disable it if u want to

pagefile.sys is winxp's swapfile, its been in all versions of windows u can set the file size in control panel > system properties > advanced > performance settings > advanced settings > performance options advanced > virtual memory

You can move the swap file to another partition if you wanna free up even more space.
Assuming it works the same way in XP as it does in 2000, here's how you do:
Start->Settings->Control Panel->System
Go to the advanced tab, then performance options.
There should be a Virtual Memory section there, press change, and you can place your swap whereever you feel like.

Don't set it to 0 though, as that might be rather unhealthy for your computer.

Setting it to 0 will just cause Win2K to whine until you make it bigger again, and it'll create a temporary one so it doesn't run out of memory. Unlike NT4 which just BSOD'd.
