Windows-XP and bad installs of games.

Ok here it is:

I went to install Diablo-II on to a newly built Windows XP machine and i get an error when trying to copy one particular file.
I figured "must be my cd" so then i said lets try another game.
Viola! Same error,a ballon popupshows up in the taskbar saying there was an error in a virtual copy.
Any ideas?
