Windows (XP) address book not allowing import/export

hey, for some reason, my address book in windows xp wont allow me to import or export files; the buttons arent highlighted so its not even an option. also, whenever i open address book, all of the numbers in the mobile phone category appear blank, when theyre not supposed to be? i know these are pretty lame problems, but anyone got any suggestions?
