I need help setting up a A7N266-VM with windows XP Pro.

This is my second one to setup and I had problems with the first one so now I have a few questions.
On the first computer under the device manager under computer it has "Standard PC".

1) Should it say "ACPI PC"?
2) Do I need to do anyhting special during the Windows install to make this say ACPI? I am booting from the CD and it starts the install right away after a few questions.

On the first PC, it will not shut down, it only goes to the it is OK to turn off pc now message. I read some post saying to go into power options in control panel and then go to APM tab and check some box. After I do that and then try to shut down, the PC will not shut down, it just reboots.

3) Where in the BIOS is anyhting asking "Pnp OS Y/N", I can't find it, does it matter?
4) Is there anyhting in the BIOS for ACPI to be set on or off...?

From what I have read, for the first PC, the only way to get the PC to say "ACPI PC" is to reinstall windows.

5) Is this the only way?
6) What will be lost if I reinstall, will the registry and all be redone and what about all the software that has been installed?
7) Do I do a reinstall or repair?

Thanks for any help or links in response to this.

If you want to enable a Standard PC to shut down automatically, got to device manager and VIEW HIDDEN DEVICES.
You will see NT/Legacy APM Support and enable it. This will allow the PC to shut down automatically.

To understand the differences between StandardPC vs. ACPI read the AT FAQS.
