windows xp-64 won't install

Running a DFI Lanparty SLI... with a A64 3200+... IDE Hard-drive, Dvd-rom...

I instert the disc ... it loads the installer ... I reformat the partition ... it copies the set-up files then reboots...

after the reboot it goes right back into the first set-up screen where it asks to reformat...

if I take out the DVD or set the BIOS to put hard-drive first after the installer files are copied the computer says: working operating system can't be found or something..

Something is fishy... please help

When it did the original reformat...did you delete the partitions and then recreate, then reformat them?, if not, Id try that

might need to format the master boot record

Fdisk mbr/

It's normal for the setup to go into its 'DOS mode' twice if it needs to fix errors on the hard disk, and I'm pretty sure you have to go through all the setup again too. Why not follow through with it and see what happens? If it happens more than twice, then something is wrong. No MBR will be written until the DOS setup phase has completed (twice if it needs to fix errors on a partition).
