Is there any advantage for using this now, or will it only help when new programs are written?

The newest beta version is a lot better, and is more stable that the past. But it is still infact a beta, so it's not recommended for everyday use. As for any advantage now for current 32-bit programs when it's released in retail, I'm not sure.
