windows x64 stuck on "acquiring network address"

i have been trying to get a wireless network running in Windows x64, found the driver for the linksys wmp54gs pci adapter. now when i connect to the network, it stays stuck at "acquiring network address". i have enetered the IP and DNS settings manually, and it states that i'm connected, yet i'm still unable to connect to any web sites from x64. everything is fine in xp pro. anyone know how to solve this problem? i am using a linksys 54g router w/speedboost and comcast cable service.
