Have 2 250GB maxtors and I'm trying to install windows on them while they're in raid 0. My bios is up to date and they post in the bios and in the NV raid menu no problem. This is on an A8N SLI Deluxe with 1011 bios. Hard drives are connected to sata1 and sata2(black, of course). I get a healthy 466GB raid 0 in the NV raid setup menu. I have win XP pro, I think without any service packs though(I've also tried xp pro w/SP1 on the cd and it was a no go too). I hit F6 and install the 2 raid drivers in the beginning of the install but it just locks when it says "setup is starting windows". Right after this it should give you a list of your drives so you can choose which one you want to install to......just locks before it gets there. When I turn raid 0 off and run the drives normally windows setup doesn't lock and more but sees both drives as 130GB. :(

I know this is a common problem that a lot of people probably have so hopefully I can get this figured out. BF2 is collecting too much dust...;)

I know that windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2 installed shows large hd's just fine but I was wondering if XP w/SP2 on the cd would see the drives during setup or is installing windows on 2x250GB sata drives a lost cause!??!? Should have ordered a couple 74GB Raptors instead.....wouldn't be banging my head on the desk right now!

I been trying to use the NV raid drivers off the ASUS disk. I hit F6, then S-to specify-2x's, then enter. This worked fine with my 80GB samsungs in raid 0. Then one of them died so I got these drives instead.

A SP2 slipstreamed XP install CD would definately be the place to start.

Boy and I thought Windows was so easy ;p

yeah, I was looking at doing that just gotta find the link to some instructions to do it, so you think w/sp2 it would see the drives right off?

I would guess so, otherwise you've got a lot of extra work ahead of you =)

But I'm no authoritative source, I haven't used the XP install on my notebook in like 8 months and I'll probably be removing it soon.

I think I'll give the sp2 slipstreamed cd a try before I get all excited and RMA these drives back to newegg for some raptors ;)

Well thanks for the help. If it doesn't work I'll just get some raptors.....I'm just tired of swapping out drives. Huge pain in the a$$.....water cooling hoses in the way :(

You should always use an XP CD w/SP2 slipstreamed whenever you do a clean install of Windows XP. It always works the best that way and ensures you are up to date on your install. It is a total waste to install Windows XP without SP2 slipstreamed because you will have a long countless hours to spend applying patches afterwards without SP2 slipstreamed on the install. Also, I believe Windows XP prior to SP1 has problems identifying HDDs larger than 120GB. Definitely try and slipstream SP2 on your Windows XP CD.

XP SP2 install, and x64 for that matter, see my SATA drives no problem, but they are not in an array. It read my array wrong and fscked it up, so I don't use RAID anymore.
