I have win98se and when I hit restart on the sshut down menu it does not work. Instead it goes to that screen that looks like the windows boot up screen and says at the bottom something like "its safe to shut down the comp." any suggestions?

well, chances are this is because of the nature of your power on/off button on your case. Alot of times if the button has two physical positions (one for on and one for off) then it will require a manual "push" to make it cut power to the comp and turn it off. My old case was this way and my friends new case is this way. After it says that it is safe to turn off, just hit the button on your case. I mean just think, that will burn a whole 1-3 calories extra per computer use.

there you go, I not only answered your post I helped you stay in shape :) j/k

er, wait, are you asking about restarting the machine and not shutting it down? If thats what your asking, I feel really stupid right now

As for a problem with the restart, that could also be a power issue, though I really don't think it is. I would check the knoweldge database some more and listen for smart people to respond to you from here instead of morons like me :) sorry about that, I just gotta learn to read better. Peace

how long is "a while"? I have had things stop working under 98 before after like 3 monthes, then after a fresh install, they all work again. 98 just seems to degrade with time.
