when I put a new cd in the tray or plug in my flash memory into the usb port, windows wont recognize the contents. It sees that the device or disk is there but cant access the data and says not readable. Do I have a virus??? nto sure what to do

you have adaware and spybot loaded, but did you run a scan recently?

Also, when I originally read your thread I thought I knew a possible answer, but then you mentioned the USB key.

So.... give us more info.

CD drive.... is it internal or external....if external, what is its interface?
OS .... what OS, service packs/patches current?
BIOS, and other system drivers current (Intel chipset....etc)?

Did you always have this problem? Did it start happening after you moved the comptuer or install software/hardware?

Thanks

Hi, I have a mate that had a similar problem. He had to keep a cd in the tray and the usb flashdrive connected before starting the computer. I came across this discussion that might help you. Type in ustorage.exe in google groups. The second link is what you want. Also click on View: complete thread (10 articles). I uninstalled ustorage from his comp and it worked fine for a while. However the problem has reoccurred and i am stumped on finding another solution. Hope you find the answer to it cos i surely would like to know.

Thanks Barraboy. I still experience this even though that software was removed long ago. My guess is that their remove utility did not remove everything the program installed. I made a mistake of not monitoring the install. Who know what files and/or registry entries remains. Since this driver causes so many problems, the author should have posted instructions on how to manually remove everything.
