Changed default XP theme and put the classic theme on. Now, I want the XP theme back. only problem is, when i try to do so, ithe screen greys and you get the message that says please wait while it tries out new settings. it stays tha tway frozen, greyed out. i can move my mouse, but the screen is frozen.

One thing to note. i run services.msc and disabled the Theme service, but I reenabled it and set it on Automatic again when I decided I wanted the XP theme back.

Can anyone help me?

If you right click on the desktop and select properties, there should be a tab for Themes. It's not selected for Classic is it?

no, i'm not that stupid. i can set it to use the theme, but when i restart, it reverts to the classic, even though Windows XP style is selected.

Right click on the desktop, select properties. Then settings, then advanced. go to the Troubleshoot tab. Make sure Hardware acceleration is set to 'Full'

it's already on full. the thing is, i can use the theme, but as soon as my computer restarts, it claims it's still using the theme, but it looks like Windows Classic. Theme service is set to automatic.

right click on my computer, click on properties. Click on the advanced tab then in performance click settings. Now choose 'adjust for best appearance.' in the visual effects tab.

yes, when I create a new user, it uses the XP theme. It's probably a corrupt profile or registry. any ideas?

Then create a new user. Delete the old one.
Rename it for yourself................

Knowing that you need a modified version of the UxTheme.dll to run third party themes for XP, You might try to find the modified version at Themexp.org and replace the one you have now. Uxtheme.dll is found in c:\windows\system32 folder. You have to replace the file in safe mode. I have the file if you want to PM me to get it. Probably not your problem, but it is a try.

Edited for crappy spelling..

1. i'm not running 3rd party themes, and i already modified that file, thx though.
2. the problem is within the registry, I am 99.9% sure
3. I corrected it by creating another user and using it as my primary.
