I had a similar problem w/ an ATI card after installing DX9a. I tried a couple of DX-removal programs found on-line but the programs didn't work too well (they were originally designed for DX7 or DX8). I just restored the hd image to fix the problem.
Soulkeeper, did you just get that card, or have you had it for a while? I just went from an AIW 8500 to a 9000 PRO card and had a similar problem, the new card would not do 4x AGP although the old one did. I returned the card and wound up getting a 9500 PRO and have no problems with it at all, works perfectly. Maybe the Ti4200 is defective...
Format to get rid of DX9. If you don't have a dx9 compatible card don't install it? I doubt that's the problem though.
What does dxdiag say? Install chipset drivers then the 4in1's or AGP may not work
Ok i got it solved
i guess windows was picky about the order you install stuff
after reinstalling windows and trying 6 different versions of nvidia drivers and different dx versions and 4-in-1 versions i guess that windows wanted the 4-in-1 drivers installed before upgrading dx, not after, and i guess that's all it needed
