Windows won't detect Audigy 2 ZS? *FIXED* Digital vs Analog out question, now!

Thanks a lot, everybody! Turns out changing the PCI slot fixed the problem. Now I have a new problem. Everything works perfectly except for one small issue:

I'm using the SPDIF for my speakers and analog-out for my headphones. Under speaker settings, when I select "Digital Output Only," that's what I get. Unfortunately, when I UN-check that box, I still get sound through the analog-out AND the SPDIF. Has anybody had THIS problem? Thanks a lot! I really appreciate the help!

**********OLD POST***********
I'm running WinXP Pro and just upgraded from a SB Live 5.1 to an Audigy 2 ZS. Unfortunately, Windows won't detect the new card when I boot (yes, I completely uninstalled the Live drivers). Has anybody else had this problem? I checked the IRQ mapping for the MB and removed an old modem with potential conflict, but that didn't solve the problem. Honestly, I'm pretty much at a loss here... there are no symptoms, so I don't know what to fix. Can anybody give me any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
Epsilon

You're talking about the program "CDROM:\Audio\Drivers\CTZAPXX.exe," right? I ran that program, selected uninstall, and then rebooted (I even tried cold booting), but nothing changed. If you're talking about another program, please let me know. There are quite a few on the CD. Thanks again.

"remove" the device in device manager, remove ALL soundcard drivers (make sure onboard audio is DISables in BIOS). Shut down the computer and physically remove the card and reinstall it in another slot.

When Win detects the new HW, CANCEL it.

Install the drivers from the Audigy CD . . . . .report back
(then the updated drivers from Creative's website)

good luck

I had something like that one time and I installed the drivers to the Audigy card and it was magically recognized. Worth a shot.

I had a problem like before when i got my card from Best buy. I installed the card then attempted to install the drivers from creative and it wouldnt work no matter what i tried, even reformatting didnt work...After much searching, the problem turned out that the card i bought was in fact not a true audigy, but instead was a returned cheap audigy-clone card that was originally bought off the internet, then the person that bought it bought a real audigy at best buy for more and swapped the cards and returned it...I didnt get burned on that one since i exchanged it, but to verfiy if that is or isnt your problem you will have to look at your card and see what model number you have. iirc A1 cards are genuine and B2 cards are clone. Thats probably not your problem, but then again i never thought that would have been my problem originally either so its worth a shot checking out if the above reccomendations dont work.

Just turn your speakers off when you're not using them?

It's supposed to do both at the same time.

False! I have two computers attached to the speakers. I want to be able to run them separately OR at the same time. BTW, the current behavior is NOT the behavior found in the Live 5.1...

Why the hell did you ask for opinions if you just want to yell "FALSE" ???

Notice the phrasing "Digital out only" ? That would seem to suggest that at all other times, the digital out is playing as well as the analog. Anyways, if you have multiple computer hooked up, just select the right computer that you want to use on your reciever\decoder.

Well, I'm sorry if you took offense at my response. I didn't mean to offend you. I was mearly indicating that your suggestion was not an acceptable course of action. If it was, I wouldn't have asked.

In addition, you didn't offer any opinions or helpful suggestions. You suggested somthing blatantly obvious and then said it was "supposed to do both at the same time." First, how do you know that it is supposed to do both at the same time? Second, the Live 5.1 did NOT do both at the same time. This indicates that something is not properly set. I do appreciate the bump from your original post, but, besides that, it wasn't helpful at all. I'm not trying to justify saying "false," because it was not my intention to be rude. I was simply reacting to your respone. Again, I'm sorry if I offended you.

As for your second post, thanks. I'll see what I can do on that end. Unfortunately, the controls for the Cambridge Soundworks DTT 3500's are a bit cryptic; I seem to get both or nothing. I'll try a bit harder. :)

I assumed you were using a reciever of some type since you have 2 computers connected. What sort of connectors are you using to connect the speakers?

I'm admittedly somewhat ignorant when it comes to actual speaker lingo (i.e. the difference between a receiver and an amp, the names of connectors, etc), but I can link you to an image of the speaker system. The "thing" at the bottom is receiver(?) and from it comes cords that look like RCA cords. These go to the satellites and have their positive and negative wires exposed so that you have to sort of "clamp" them into the back of the speakers. That's probably not very helpful...

The first computer has an SPDIF out of the Audigy 2 ZS going into the Digital Din on the receiver. The second computer has left and right analog outputs going into the analog inputs on the receiver. There's a larger image of the receiver/decoder itself here. Unfortunately, you can't read the labels on the lights, but I can list them for you (from top to bottom).

[First Button = Creative Multi Speaker Surround] (This one is usually on Fourpoint/5.1 DIN)
Music
Movie
Fourpoint/5.1 DIN
Stereo

[Second Button = Dolby Digital / PCM Audio] (This one is always on Digital DIN)
Optical
Coaxial
Digital DIN

[Third Button = Multi-Channel] (This is ALWAYS Line in and pushing the button only turns it off -- it never lights Digital DIN)
Line In
Digital DIN

[Fourth Button = ] (Both lights are always off and I can't see a difference with either one lit)
LL
RR

[Fifth Button = Dolby Pro Logic] (Always off. Digital In changes nothing but Analog in disables the first button and sound from the first computer)
Digital In
Analog In

Note about the fifth button: Analog in here is effectively what I want, but it feels like a cheap hack rather than actually understanding and solving the problem...

That's about it. If it gives you any ideas, let me know. Thanks again.

A good question... Now that I think about it, probably not. However, it's been doing it fine for a while now. It definitely does not have any sort of problem playing sounds from different sources simultaneously.

Right, but you definitely don't want to play both sources simultaneously... Hrmmm, I have no idea. I could probably figure it out if I had that unit, if it were possible. Best of luck to ya.
