Windows won't boot

Hi,

Having a problem getting windows to boot up. Computer was running fine today, when I decided to patch BF2 to 1.3 (havn't played it for awhile) and afterwards I decided to defrag my computer. After that was done, everything was working fine, and I eventually powered off the system.

Now when I try to boot up, the system goes through the bios screen that shows the system specs, and then shows the Windows XP loading screen with the green bars. After that though, I just get a black screen and nothing happens. Ctrl-alt-del doesn't work and I either have to hold the power button down to power it off or use the reset switch.

After resetting, the system says that Windows was unable to load properly and that a recent software or hardware change might have caused the problem. Whether I choose to boot to Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, or Normal Windows boot, I get the same problem ... loads, shows system specs, shows Windows XP loading bars, then goes to black screen and becomes unresponsive.

Any ideas?

P4 2.8
1gb RAM
2 WD PATA drives, 120gb and 250
SB Live
Radeon 9600

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a serious corruption of the Operating system. If it was my system I would do a "repair" reinstall of the operating system and see if that will bring it around.
