Windows won't boot, repair install stuck at 34 minutes

Ok here's the situation, I have to ake some changes to my overclock so I reset to default writing down all my old settings... or so i thought. Then as soon as I do that and reboot Windows won't start. GRUB shows up asks me if i want Kubuntu or XP, when I chose XP it flashes the bootloader command then just shows a blank screen. Nothing happens.... So I hit the reset button and try Kubuntu which works fine. So I reboot, and try XP again. It tells me that Windows didn't successfully start the whole blah blah. So I try last known good config... no dice. Then I try safemode, and it loads all the files up to giveio.sys where it hangs, so it must be something there. Anyone got any idea?

UPDATE: Did a repair install after everything else failed, now repair install is stuck at 34 minutes while 'installing devices'.

If you overclocked to values that prevent windows from starting. I would just use the jumper pin to reset cmos and that should take it back to the original values?

If you set to default values in bios. it would I believe go back to your last configuration. Perhaps which were undesirable values as well?
If you reset with cmos pin or pulled battery I believe it should trake you to factory values which would be stock speeds.

I know I once set the values to where it was so unstable it wouldn't let me into bios to change them back.
Resetting cmos returned it to stock values which allowed it to boot.
Should for you as well unless something beyond a bad overclock is happening here.

ie corrupted files.
Are kubuntu and xp on the same drive just different partitions?

Linux will boot, windows won't and they are on the same partition. My overclock was stable, but i needed to adjust some values so i just reset my whole bios which is when this problem started. I never had an unstable overclock.

Linux is much more tolerant of faulty hardware than windows. Try removing as many devices as possible and try to install windows. If it works add a device one at a time until you have a problem booting and you will then know the problem device.

If none of this helps, then my guess would be a bad chip on the MB.

Huh? Linux and Windows on the same partition? You mean hard drive? 😛

Ive had similar problems when I had a corupted driver or somthing from OCing windows was trying to load at around 34 min. Happened a few times actually. I fixed it by using the recovery console on the CD and deleting the INF directory in the original windows install and then repair install again.
