Ummm, I thought that Whistler IS XP. Was the install on this machine done with the same CD you are trying to get files from?

Whistler was the codename for WinXP.

On most of the beta builds of XP the startup screen said "Windows Whistler something something".

Go to start->run and type "winver" and you should get some version information, such as build number etc for your windows installation.

That's the same build I have and I know my copy is legit because I got it straight from microsoft.

Does it ask for a path, or "just the CD"?
I mean can you type in something like "X:\whatever"?

If you can, chances are it wants the "X:\i386" directory.

no it doesnt actually, just asks for the CD , theres no other options,

its never happened to me, but after messin with the boot screens i may have messed up some system files and it needed to fix it....
i thought it did, but got some BSOD's today :(

keeping geting messages refering to IRP and IRQ (not less or equal)

XP having IRQ problems ?? WTF !!
