Windows Vista User Desktop Problem -- ALL ICONS GONE!

Hi Guys.

Not sure if I?m explaining this correctly but here?s the succinct story of what happened:

1. My parent?s computer (built it myself) running Vista x64 Professional. I remotely access it (successfully) since it?s in a different state.
2. Three users (one is the admin ? myself). My dad?s user profile is perfect and so it?s the admin. All icons are properly displayed on the desktop when accessing each of these two users (switching between the two or individually).
3. My mom turned the computer off while she was logged into her own profile then logged back in (a day later) and all her desktop icons were gone! The gadgets are still present on the right hand side of the screen as previously installed (weather, temps, etc, stocks, news, etc).
4. I?m able to log into each user remotely. Everything work perfectly but I cannot copy and paste any shortcut to my mom?s user profile desktop. It would not paste anything (paste is not grayed out and available after copying a program icon shortcut).

What went wrong? How can I fix this? I?d really appreciate any help on this as I?m left scratching my head on this one!

Thank you all in advance!

check to see if the options for hiding the icons is turned on... right click -> Show Desktop Icons --- there should be a check mark beside it

Right-click on an empty place on the desktop, select "View", then verify that "Show Desktop Icons" is checked.

Guys! You rock! Hit the nail on its head! It worked! Icons are back on the desktop. Thank you all so much!
