Windows Vista Media Center volume...

Im using MC for watching TV (via a Hauppauge HVR950) and i cant for the life of me figure out why adjusting the MC volume also adjusts the System volume. If i turn it down all apps get turned down. If i mute MC all apps are also muted. Is there a way to decouple this behaviour? It really makes no sense at all.

Thats the one thing i like about MC. Cause if it had its own volume it would be adjusted as a percentage of the Device volume. So if your Device volume is 10% then your application 100% volume will only correspond to 10% actual volume of the device, say speakers.

Which becomes a pain when using something like Media Portal. To have full volume adjustment I have to set device volume to max and the darn system sounds always set themselves to max volume on restart, meaning the comp plays one heck of a loud windows startup sound.
