I've got a friend's PC that i need to format and reinstall vista home premium on, but its a sony and only has restore discs. It has a valid product key on the bottom. So, i'm wondering if there is somewhere i can download a legit copy of vista home premium since we dont have the discs. also, this is a japanese PC (japanese key code i guess) and needs to have full Japanese language support.

I have my discs for vista ultimate. i heard that all vista dvds have the ability to install any version (home, ultimate, etc.) of vista and it checks which one to install based on your keycode. also, since ultimate supports other languages, i would think this would work.

any ideas? :)

Your DVD should work fine. Just make a copy of it or if you want, call MS up and order a replacement. It would cost a few $$ but then you get a real good copy with the latest Service Pack already integrated into it.
