Windows Vista can't run 64 bit colors?

I ordered windows vista home premium 64 bit off of newegg and installed it on my new computer. The disc says my operating system is 64 bit and the system is saying its windows vista 64 bit, yet I can't run 64 bit colors, can anyone help me?

In the context of operating systems, 64-bit doesn't refer to the color depth but the 'width' of integers, memory addresses, or other data units used by the operating system.

Do you actually have a monitor that supports 64 bit color? And a graphics card that can output 64bit color?

Furthermore, do you have eyes that can see 64bit color?

Video uses DDR bits. You double the reported bitrate, to get what you're actually using. So if you're showing 32bits, that means it's really 64bit... You're golden :^)

Shoot, I'd pay just to get 1,000,000 million color vision (the norm for humans) since I am slightly colorblind.

Now, there are people that can see 100,000,000 million colors (tetrachromatics, iirc) but that still is much, much less than 64 bit. Also, i believe that they are usually women, and also, usually the children of colorblind parents.

The heck with 64-bit colors. Try black and white:

I just helped a friend with her PC connection to her older TV. She was using an S-Video connection through an RF converter. There's no S-Video connector on the TV and no Composite video connector on her PC

The S-video-to-RF image was HORRIBLY fuzzy. You couldn't even read closed captions in a movie.

I gave her an S-Video-to-Composite cable since she DID have composite video jacks on the TV. The picture is now comparitively razor-sharp. But zero color. Totally black & white.

She's now looking for old B&W movies at Netflix. I recommended "The Longest Day", the first half-hour of "The Wizard of Oz", and old episodes of "Gunsmoke".

64 bit color systems do exist, even 128bit . The reason they are not mainstream is because there is no need for them. Once you break down the spectrum into 64 bit precision, there is so little difference between the colors as you go along that there is no human that can distinguish the difference. You will not find them on Vista , they are actually linux systems. They are used for things like deep space imaging, height maps, etc.

Oh, I just wish my monitor could render 0xF8FD8D07E894EF89 (I love that color!) But alas, we are limited to a range of 0x00000000 -> 0xFFFFFFFF (BTW, 32bit colors have 8bits of basically wasted color space as it is an alpha blending. So really, most of the time we are running with 24 bit vision )
