Windows Vista Beta 2 cancelled......................maybe

They sound desperate to stay on schedule which means that Vista won't be good until SP2.

I was looking foward to testing the public beta.

I tried the beta and it seemed like absolutely nothing new.. I mean.. It seems like there's fewer differences between XP and Vista than 95 and 98..

That's because you were trying Beta 1. The pre-Beta 2 builds have shown a lot of improvement. In fact, I'll probably install it the day it comes out.

One of the things people don't know much about is that there's a new sound stack control system, which allows you to adjust sound for individual applications meaning you can turn up media player for example and turn down windows alert sounds (eg new mail in outlook). They've also finally changed the security meaning you can now use the limited accounts properly, and you need the admin password to install and access programs / functions. Not to say that's 'only' two things that they've change since XP, but that's two that's caught my attention so far.

I don't know why people bother criticizing alphas and betas; actually I do as everyone gets off on bitching about Microsoft. So they can't see all the improvements, but it doesn't mean there aren't any under the bonnet.

There are definitly improvements but it will also be more bloated then XP, were gonna need a good video card plus 1-2 gigs of ram. Not a big deal with how fast computer technology improves.

I hate the Open/Save dialogs they have picked, I wish they had used the Office 2003 style instead.

Truthfully I think Windows XP x64 is the best OS on the market right now. Just needs to have more drivers to come out or you need to buy newer hardware.

Thats what I thought ast first too.

I just installed x64 and it was the smoothest install i have ever had. THey system ran very fast and smooth. I installed my videoa nd sound card drivers from the supported websites. I then tried installing the nforce3 drivers fro my MSI Neo2 Plat. Well now it seems to run a bit slower.

I have tried playng some games and none of them seem to be running very smoothly. I have heard that its do able..I just cant get it to workr ight now.

sure it'll be bloated, and run "slow" on current hardware, but wasnt xp the same way when it first came out?
