Windows Vista and the trash your license in 2 uses.

greylica

Senior member
Is it an kind of new hoax that Windows Vista FPP ( Boxed version ) will be installable only twice ?
I cannot believe that a very expensive software will present the consumers with
the trash of our money in 2 uses. A condom at least have a reason to not be used twice...

It´s cheaper.

Can someone remember a film with Al pacino (The Devils Advocate) when a girl tell this ?

-" Buy an very expensive cloth, then trash it !!! You will feel free !!! "

In four years, I changed my computer 4X...
Blame AMD -> Buy Intel, Blame Intel -> Buy AMD, Blame everything -> Buy a Mac now hauahahauahua.

Now we can change a Core 2 duo to a QX once, and when " *X Core Plus overclockable, unlocked half atomic transistor X86_64_128_256 with 0.XX V " wich will requires a new moterboard of course come to stores, trash plus your Windows Ultimate descartable piece.
It´s your punnition to buy another computer, you have to suffer!! Suffer idiot, Suffer !!
Or at least a punition if you understand that your platform now is obsolete to run the ultimate invention to make your system so slow and fatter than anything you have saw before.
Microsoft wants to give us the liberty to trash money, hauahauahua, crappy license, I´m downloading Kubuntu for my next O.S. in case of this is going to be true. I have 5 licenses of XP now. Two of Them is FPP ( Boxed for PCs without Windows ). I have my liberty to buy another machine right now, and use an newly super over Xeon DP with no problem at all. I Buy FPP only for this liberty. I don´t like to trash money and to be punished only for bought a new hardware...

Buuuutttttt....I still cannot believe this is true.

Is it an Hoax ?

You can install it as many times as you feel like as long as it's the same computer.

However if you get the Vista _retail_ license your allowed to transfer it to another computer _once_. The XP Retail license allows you to move it to many computers as long as you only have one install going at a time.

If push comes to shove if it has a new motherboard it's a new computer.

If you get a OEM license either with XP or Vista your only allowed to have it on one computer and one computer only. But people frequently get away with it with no issues.

Thats _it_.

If you want to bitch about it, go here:

New licensing terms for Windows Vista are a shocker.

Thanks , I saw the shocked people, and I am really shocked too.
Generally, a person who will buy a legit copy of retail version of Windows Vista only buy the reail version because he knows that someday he will be buying another computer or another hardware. The price tag give him the advantage for do this anytime, with no trashing money and he pays for the liberty of change computer as they wish.

If Vista is punitive ( XP is restrictive, but OK ), I really prefer to desist, and Migrate to Linux Definetly, Right now I´m using free software everyday, the only switch is faulting is only the entire O.S. I ´m using Windows because of my old licenses for programs that I bought in the past, and I don´t want to put them on trash only for a fancy upgrade. It´s my money and my work, I don´t put my work of a day on a trashcan. NEVER.

Honestly I´m still using a downgrade version of XP, I´m using 2000 and for my older programs, and my new works with Blender, Yafray, Inkscape, Jashaka, OpenOffice, 7zip, GIMP, Wings3D, MakeHuman, WAX and Xvid, 2000 is the best, faster, easier, stable, no spywares, no adwares, no bloatwares, no rootkits, no WGA is needed cause I turned Off the updates sice I had problems with OpenGL after certain updates from Microsoft. I used a trial Version Of Vista and 2003, poorer OpenGl aceleration in all cases, a benchmark with Blender and you discover you killed you VGA Card, even if it is a Quadro 4000 !!!
The most of the updates are done manually and I see what I´m doing. No problems anymore. No Anoying activation if my system fails, simply, I resolve and not spend my time on the tell nor with annoying popups to activate. I´m workin and not worring about tell them what I did with MY MACHINE.

I can tell:

The first big hole in security is P2P, I don´t use it, I do not stole nothing from anyone,
CREATIVE COMMONS EXIST !!! Why stole from famous person and not know a new world of new people whose can give you a chance of join and conversation ???, Know new people !!! Tell the autor you need a music, agree with him, and use it !!! Respect Him, propagate his work with your work !!! = Mutualy respect at no cost .

P2P - Eliminated.
The second is potentially unsafe navigation, I do not watch out of my home what I have ( I love my wife, 8 yers of relationship ).

Pornography - Eliminated

The third is curiosity with Spams. If I don´t know you, bye, got to the oblivion that yau came from.

SPAM - Eliminated

The fourth is pirated or counterfeited software and Trojan Horses. Never use a software that you don´t know where it came from. ( Exceptions now with Ipods and Cocas Mp3 players with MacDonalds and Macintoshes and Mac anything else, a complete shame )

And the fifth is IE6, I don´t use it too.

An educated person do not represent a risc for himself, I counted 2 years without any virus. ( Except for Blaster and Sasser, No I did not do anything, the computer restarts alone , HUH !!! ).

I am not desperate to see older inovations with a new visual, I only want to work, only work...

The punishment to simply change the hardware is unaceptable, Microsoft is surpassing the limits, a simply change in price and they can stop piracy right now, but sound like Vista will be more expensive than XP and uses this tactic of stolen the consumer, Software is not Condom. The condom at least have an justificative to be used once, Vista ( Retail, OEM is another History, I know perfectly the Rules ) have at least one justificative to punish all the consumers who bought honestly their softwares ? NO !!!
It´s abusive. Even OEM is abusive !
I will simply refuse to buy a limited 2 usage version paying more money and knowing XP do not have the same limitation, and encourage others to switch to linux as I´m trying to do right now encouraged by this abusive treatment.
Really Linux is installed on my machine, but now will be used and really integrated in my day by day.
I will forget this world created by Microsoft. Computation is not hell, is a tool, not an gun for war, let them kill themselves, the software is theirs , not ours, it´s only not to use it, and change my world to never more be in their game of war against the users of their own products.

License for Vista Retail 2X in this way... Ridiculous.

Ops , excuse for a big post...

The way you rant you sound insane enough to direct your energy to using Linux.
Honestly I´m still using a downgrade version of XP, I´m using 2000 and for my older programs, and my new works with Blender, Yafray, Inkscape, Jashaka, OpenOffice, 7zip, GIMP, Wings3D, MakeHuman, WAX and Xvid,
Ya definately. If those are the sort of things your using then by all means do yourself a favor and go over completely to Linux.

Especially for things like Blender or Gimp, which work better in Linux anyways.

BTW I never heard about 'MakeHuman' before. That's with Blender stuff isn't it?

What is WAX?

"Xvid" stuff I am not to familar with. I know it's a codec for doing 'Divx'-style mpeg4 encodings.

For doing that stuff in Linux check out mencoder: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/mencoder.html
It's part of mplayer project.

It uses a veriaty of codecs to create AVI files. It can use xvid, but the most commonly used is Libavcodec which is actually a collection of various codecs. It's mpeg4 encoder is actually superior to either divx of xvid. It's generally faster and can give better results. Also there is limited support for the H.262 stuff which is newer better-standard. They have all sorts of hardcore video encoding information (like how to do 2-pass encoding and charts showing standards/compatability with divx/dvds/svcd and such), but I usually just copy and past what they say is good into a file and make a little bash script.

As a interesting diversion check out http://www.archive.org if you haven't before. It's full of creative commons and public domain stuff. For instance I downloaded 'Night of the Living Dead' for watching. It's a very old film, but it's still good.

I´m waiting for the download of Kubuntu to complete. Thanks to this new invention, wheter is or not an Hoax, I decided to retire from this war against the users, they have sufficient money to not need consumers for about 10 years, they will not worry about the opinions of me or you, so why we ever spend time telling them what we don´t want if they willn´t do anything at all to agree with the honestly consumers ?
I think to my self if our opinion is really important for Microsoft, and the only answer I´ve found is a redundant NO. Everybody knows that a dongle or a by person license can solve those problems, or then another term of license more flexible. But, why worry about it ?
They have the software, they can license the way that they want, abusive or not, and we can´t do a dam thing about it. So I think why we still discuss what they are doing everyday to limit the usage to rich people. They are everyday implementing things to be " Elitist" like an MAC, but still selling for common people, creating an image marketing, and telling " there is no trouble ". Yes, there is a trouble, for an descartable piece you have to have an cheaper price. Windows is very expensive, it is proved, the prices is artificially manipulated high.
I´ve read so many posts telling that this will be a no problem, call them and then they can reactivate your computer, no problem. I disagrre with this wrong behavior.
So now is the moment, if the EULA tell this and you have a problem with your computer, or change hardware like I did 4 times, you will be praying for the benevolent atendant person who will decide if you are sufficient educated to give you a new key, course if the person are in a good day, cause if he or she did not sleep well at night, you will loose $399,00.
It´s a lottery, for $399,00 prizes, work on a month , and call the Microsoft Casino.

Some saids this isn´t the final EULA, this is a spy tactic to see what happens if ...
Well, the history is said by itself, activation, spywares colecting information ( do you remember waht happened with Microsoft antyspyware ? It was proven that this program send them a discrete signal telling what programs you use, your name and etc , they changed it fastly as possible, I remember), WGA, annoying popups, and softwares that contain certain problems that can´t be solved without formating your system, cause it´s not modular, it´s fully integrated to be an trully nightmare.

Is it the Technology world evolution ?

Government are spending all of the money in the world to control people how slaves, and everyday a one appears laughing and telling them they can control everything, food, cloths, the beer that you drunk yesterday...
What about the new transmitters ? You leave the market and your neighborhood knows all you have in home with a touch of a button, and , if you don´t have an EMP Bomb to kill all the dicreet signals, your life is an open door, they can know your wife, your son, your daughter, everything, everything.
I´m not telling this like a " to be scared cheap text ", I´m telling the truth, in a couple of years, our civilian liberties will be an dream like the chinese people, with the difference that they all know who is the opressor, and we ?

Microsoft is only a part of it, a part of an disease, and when Bill Gates leave, I think "Oh My God !!", it will be very very bad for all of the world, and it´s being truth everyday.

Feel free to trash $399,00 if you have sufficient money and don´t need to work for it, I´m on the other road.

Leaving.....

Yes, Blender is an Open Source 3D App, complete suíte for 3D content creation, ultrapowerfull and free. Make Human is an App to create human meshes to rig.

Ops , excuse me for a long post.

I Heard a friend of mine, He is an IT professional and explained why Microsoft is doing this.

First, OEM is 90% of vendors choice, and Microsoft has no Obligation for doing maintenance on system pre-mounted with 3rd parties that where sold with OEM and the Expressed on CD ( Contact your vendor for support )
Second, Microsoft is simply changing the game for cutting costs on support, The Retail support is already going directly for Microsoft, and they never wanted to support so many people, because of this they created the OEM, to divide the responsibility with others, but in fact, anyway support is expensive, If they take Retail = OEM versions , they do not need to maintain a big support, and when people are disgusted with the new EULA, they will simply change the product by pressure of the money, RETAIL or OEM doesn't matter anymore to anyone, one will be equal other.
At least they will minimize the impact of support costs on them, and leaving machines to only do (re)activation. The second pass is cutting Jobs for cut costs. The most of OEM vendors already have an Call center to solve even the problems that aren't their responsibility, altough Microsoft is going to be only the vendor of the software with zero responsibility and in case of a problem, with this new approach for OEM preferential, people will not call Microsoft, will took a phone to blame hardware vendor.

It is simple, by tthis point of view, understand why 10 per cent of people can be sacrificed for the majority that directly does not cause any trouble. Another problem is that they state in mind that the major cause of piracy is the retail version. Counterfeited activations acting as if they where simply changed the machines. But they are completely wrong, people whose bought retail version know exactly what they are doing.

The advantage will come in a long time period, leaving them the liberty of any responsibility, and gaining more money.

This new EULA is only for cutting the cost of support.

Linux forced them to have more people to support, they paied for a product and now they want support and better software, increasing the costs for MS, the tornado just passed right now ( they think .),and then they will try to return to the previously state before 2003.

I'm using Mandriva Right now to this new post... 8)

I have no issues with that, all my computers live much longer than OSes. I do not believe that I will install Vista ever on any new computer. To say more, all computers are sold with some version pre-installed so you do not need to buy it separatelly. However I believe they are people who change computers frequently. Considering price of a new computer much more that price of OS, there isn't issue for them pay for OS as well. Any thoughts?

Yes, whats the only advantage in FPP over OEM version ?
A: Liberty.

A Person will only buy a FPP version because of this liberty. I changed My computer 4X in the entire life of Windows XP, do you remember , at launch of XP, there where P4 with only 1,4 GHz, Memory was a nightmare, then we had dimms, DDR 266, 333, 400, we now are in DDR2 1000, Processor, P3, P4, Athlon, Athlon MP, HT processors, Dual Core, Opterons, and now we have quad core Intel processors (QX6700), and Xeons, with DP and eight cores, capable of PAE ( Page Adress Extension - XP is limited in anyway about memory, there is a 3GB Switch limit ), But, even this way, If at every system I have to buy an entire OS I Will be trashing my money, I don´t want it.
When you work harder not with " Word " or " Excel ", it doen´s make any difference, you can have a Win98 with Office 97, it´s sufficient, that is for you, but everything ha changed and people not only do the same things, When you compare the computers we had in 2002 with the computers we have today, you will learn that is an increase of power of at least 16X.
I work with Blender, a 3D complete suíte APP to create movies in 3D, course that I have to change my computer, I want the most powerfull computer that I can Have to accelerate my work and Nor Dell, Nor HP, Nor Apple Offers a computer like we can mount in the soho world with low prices, thats the reason we change hardware by ourselves.
You probably is an simply office user to say that, you can Install Vista on your computer, it will be slow, is more simply change everything, I don´t need to do this cause I´ve changed the hardware first, but, in fact, four more years and 16 X more powerfull, I will not simply stay waiting and seeing the others with new hardware passing in my front with their Ferraris when My clients want the job Done. New Hardware !!! Liberty !!!
This make FPP Vista an Abusive compared to XP, and I tell you more, if Linux bring more velocity to the image render, better, and if Linux is not punitive, perfect !!!
I SWITCHED TO NOT USE VISTA IN THIS WAY !!
BEFORE THIS, I WAS REALLY INTERESTED, BUT THIS EULA, OBLIVION TO THEM !!!

But what is in discussion really, is the fact that they changed the rules in a way that you probably one day will get your money to the trashcan, $399,00. IT IS THE FACT BEHIND THIS NEW EULA, TRASH $399,00.
And it is what they want !!!
And more !!! Cutiing jobs !!!
It´s the heaven for make money fast, Hey MS can you trash a Million on My trashcan ? I can make a music that you can listen only twice too. 🙂

I must say this is some of the best incoherent blathering I've read (skimmed?) in a long time.

A+ and thanks for the chuckles 😉

Well in that situation your talking about; when you get Windows pre-installed on a HP or Dell computer.

What is happenning is that your getting it under a OEM license. Always with Windows the OEM license dictates that it's completely non-transferable. You can reinstall it and such, but you can't ever put it on a different computer.

The reason you go out and buy a retail license is because that it's transferable and that it's elegable for being upgraded. Once it's upgraded then the upgrade + earlier retial license effectively equalled a new retail license. So what you had happenning is that people originally bought DOS, then got the uprgade to Windows 95, then Win98, then XP, and such. Each time it's transferable. You can't do that with OEM.

That's why it makes sense for people using computers who need to upgrade often to go out and buy XP Pro Retail (~$300) vs XP Pro OEM (~$175)

However now with Vista it doesn't make sense to do that. It's stupid because it basicly removes any reason to spend more money on Retail.

Now the question is. "Why does Microsoft want to reduce the attraction of the higher priced version of their operating system?"

And Holy Crap! Greylica actually said something that makes sense!! The IT guy he talked to must be very intellegent.
First, OEM is 90% of vendors choice, and Microsoft has no Obligation for doing maintenance on system pre-mounted with 3rd parties that where sold with OEM and the Expressed on CD ( Contact your vendor for support )

The ANSWER to why Microsoft changed the licensing to transfer-only-once is to reduce the attraction of Retail license and to reduce the cost of support!

I've heard in the past that although MS charges for support when you call them and such they still loose a lot of the money so by doing this they are compelling people to buy the obviously more economically sound OEM versions because they don't have to support OEM.

It makes so much sense now.

Linux was the only force to make Microsoft listen to people, Linux is the only force that can keep us from this abusive licenses, Linux is again the only chance. Linux makes them to support people in a better way and increase the quality of the software MS does.

I´m feel free to say that Dreamworks and Pixar are using Linux because is not so fast anymore, but because if they have to pay a license fee for every slave rendering machine, your Little Nemo will cost U$50, and then they switched. It´s a survival guide to others to follow, and if everytime that they have to took out 1000 p4 servers to aquire a 1000 Core 2 Duo Servers they have to pay a new OEM lic, they will never start any job. Course now in EUA you have the so called "Rent a Server" Offered by IBM and Sun. The cost is transparent. But they have their own renderfarms too.
Certain worlds in the world of computing are completely different from what you see in day by day computing.

The professionals demand top of the line computers, the enthusiasts overclock as much a possible to attain a certain value, based on the professional market to compare, and this is the gear that turns around the benchmarks feature, the traduction of this is a wheel turning on Raw performance, and in the world of business, it is equal responsiveness, you have to have stability too, it´s a demand.
The majority of workstations to designers and IT professionals are made by higher computer pieces, they do not have time to spend and when anything is faster than the previously hardware, buy it, run faster. The world is turning. Do not limit yourself.
The enthusiasts folow the line obtaining information from the experience of professionals, nothing more, and buy the hardware pieces when they feel convinced about the quality of the piece, I read Anand because he stress hardware and software. I decide using all of the information possible got here and in another fonts.
Well, course other persons will say ,
"- but you live in the computer world ... "
Yes, but once you started in the computer world, as user or not ,and grow up, you will understand, every information save money !!
A wrong buy , a dam crappy software, everything you did wrong will turn back to your head as a headache, and computer world lie so much... All of us know about this.
Once a limit is made to one thing that you have before with no restrictions, you will start running to find another salvation. What is the salvation right here ?
With the limitation to stay with the computer and to not change, (XP is Still OK ) what will happen?
Computers will be an block, loosing it´s value faster than it was before, because now when windows Vista is out, they will increase the power of computers to make this system " light and faster ", but with new chipsets, new processors, etc. but will not make any sense to upgrade if you loose your directs over the software. People will avoid to change the computer pieces of hardware, fearing ( with reason ) the retaliation of the Casino 0800- Call-Microsoft after the new EULA .
SOHO vendors will be in a hurry. People will no more buy so much hardware in a long period. It will not help Soho vendors to offer an upgrade computercause if the motherboard have to be changed, even if it´s a Retail version, people will be disencouraged againt the possibility of $399,00 lost.
OK, MS will diminish some of the problems, ( puting efforts to lie to itselves ) but in fact in other way, the punitive EULA will make people encouraged to find an solution to OWN computers againand continue the funny thing of the enthusiasts, - That is : "-Push the computer to limits !! " every banner say this , we can see it everywhere. Hardware is an interesting thing. With a non punitive software like Linux, WOW !!!
Case mods, Overclocks, Change anything liberty, will force Enthusiasts and overclockers to find in Linux a way to a new world, now it´s the time, Mister Ray Ozzie, do Linux a favor, maintain this way this EULA, do not change, we can change by ourselves.

Thanks, Linux world, I´m coming.
