Hey yeah.

Some creepy part of me needed to try that Vista thing, so I downloaded the 5536 build. I installed and all went well, well except that I had to format and do the install three times, but that's the Windows routine. I started it, noticed it was almost an exact copy of Mac OS X Tiger, then wanted to go on the Internet. All was automatically configured, of course. I checked the IP address and the gateway and all and it was ok. But Internet Explorer wouldn't load any page. Firefox wouldn't load any page. Messenger wouldn't connect. I was worried. I ran "cmd" and tried to ping anything, Google for instance. And it works. And every site I ping works. Windows keeps telling me that I'm connected and that I don't have any problem, but I obivously have.

I went back on Linux (Ubuntu), and well of course Internet works wonderfully. So what's wrong with Vista? Why does the ping works but I can't load anything? I'm a bit worried.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom.

Why did you install the 5536 build when the 5600 build is out now (RC1)? Can't help you now...another Vista newbie, but RC1 setup my internet connection without a prompt.

Download RC1 5600. You can use the same key that beta 2 used, and after I loaded it on a NF2 box, it hooked right up on my network, without a problem. the earlier betas had problems with just about any internet connection. It's available until at least the end of Sept. according to resellerratings.

I couldn't get Vista to connect because of incompatible Earthlink software. Bought a router and set it up. Works well but have to do a repair every time I reboot.

Oh well, I guess I'll download 5600 and see what happens. Anyways, if Windows doesn't want to work, it won't work.
Thanks ;)
