windows vista and 5.1 sound

so basicly i have a fully capable direct x 10 computer and id love to run the new direct x 10 demos and such and get ready for the future games. The problem is that the last time i installed vista, other then the fact that it ran undeniably slow for some reason, i lost my 5.1 sound. is there anyway i can get 5.1 surround sound back?

You have to check with the manufacturer of your sound card to see if they have Vista Driver yet.

thing is i have built in sound and i did install the vista drivers and it was a no go

What are you using to test 5.1 sound

movies and games and music. When i ran xp everything came from all my speakers. Now when i play music for instance or movies or games i only get sound coming from my two side channels. Nothing from my center sub or back

what motherboard and onboard sound do you have? Do you have the newest drivers from your motherboard manufacter and any sound utlities? Have you checked your settings to make sure it is set to 5.1 vs 2 or 2.1?

How do you get songs in itunes to play on all speakers in xp? I have it all set up right, because i can click on the speakers in my audio program and each will play w/ the demo thing. Its really making me mad... speakers arnt being used.. is it because they are recorded in stereo?

yes, you have to force it into 5.1 if you want to change it from its original recording. This can be done in sound card drivers often or on the Z-5500 control pod you have.

OP, can you run the Vista sound check in the control panel and hear sound coming from each speaker?
