Windows Validation

A few days ago my parents computer came up with the message that it's copy of Windows XP was counterfeit. I just upgraded my computer to Vista today (thanks to the excellent advice of people here on this forum) and I was thinking about using my old XP CD key to validate my parents computer copy of Windows seeing as it's been recently freed up, but I'm not sure as to how to do this. Can anyone help me out?

Put the XP on your parent's computer, call microsoft, tell them it's the same computer and that you had to re-install windows.

They will activate the XP and all will be fine.

(You'll be breaking the contract of your EULA, but Windows will activate your XP)
