ok my brother installed windows xp w/ a bootleg cdkey grrrrr when my laptop had the windows xp pro cdkey sticker right at the bottom.

can anyone please guide me on how to change the cdkey so i can install updates/and programs taht require validation!

thankyou in advance!

Boot with a real cd and do a repair install using the authentic key. Devil advocate and retail versions used different keys.

It might not be that easy since you are most likely using a corp version of windows, and the one under your laptop uses an OEM key, which is different. If you manage to change it, you will just get an error saying that the Product Key or something is invalid...

1. iirc it was called the devil's own

2. unfortuantely you have to do a repair...it takes forever too🙁 good thing is that it is practically automated so jsut boot, set it, and forget it..
