Windows Updates

I just tried to run the initial updates for MCE. The scanning worked fine, and the list appeared, but after selecting what I wanted and clicking to install, each update started normally, but got about halfway complete and the progress bar zapped to the right, and the update was marked as failed.

I went through their troubleshooter, and found nothing that explained this, but thinking that perhaps my proxy or firewall might be interfering, I disabled them and tried again. But the failures continued. Would anyone have any idea of what the problem might be?

1) confirm system time/date are correct, or within ~30 minutes

2) try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, which resolved a "stuck" update for me a couple months ago.

I checked the date and time, assuming that you meant that which is displayed by the Task Bar clock, and it is correct. I downloaded and installed WICU, but the dialog doesn't seem to list anything related to Windows Updates, only alot of other programs. Taking MS's advise to use this with caution, I would need to knew exactly how a Windows Update would be listed, if at all?

At this point, I'm not too optomistic that this will solve the problem. The only alternative that I'm aware of, is to download them manually from microsoft.com, but that is alot more time consuming. Ideas or insights?
