I installed a batch of Windows Critical updates and recommended updates. My computer (XP Pro) started taking forever to boot into windows, would freeze, get a blue screen of death memory dump error and a bunch of crap. I finally got into windows after 3 boots or so, I guess I got lucky and it decided to give me a break. All of my programs were running so slow. I did a google and found that KB822603 caused some issues for some people, so I unistalled it.

Rebooted. Computer booted a lot faster and entered windows a lot faster, but programs still opening up very slow and computer acts funny (slow reaction when I click on things)

Also, the Welcome screen is appearing. I unclicked "Show welcome screen" from User Settings in control panel and it still does it. Any other windows updates that would fsck my computer up like this?

was it a pirated copy ? XP Updates give more problems if it was a pirated one...
but i guess it would have stopped while installing itself..

You're getting the login screen because you installed the .NET framework. It's a "feature" that can be fixed, but I can't find the MS Technet article that tells you how to do it.

As for the piracy thing, unless you got a beta version of WinXP, I see no reason why a pirated XP would perform any less than a legit copy of XP will. There was that Devil's Own cd-key that was black listed, but that's it.

Here's something to try. Go to run type msconfig. Under general tab click normal setup then apply and reboot. Hope this helps.
